spaces unit display

Using BA V8 2004, 08.05.02.13.
I am having trouble with the display unit for spaces. This can be set at two locations: The user preferences dialog, under tab Architecture, you can set measure units (I set this to Meters) and display unit (I set this to m2 ). Also can be set in the Annotate Tool Settings dialog, under Room Label, display unit can be set (I set this to m2 ).
The settings for display unit revert back to Meters each time I close and reopen the drawing.
I have save settings on exit checked in my preferences.
Hopefully any of you can help me out with this, it is a big nuisance... Thanks in advance.

  • Yes, I forgot to mention it, but I did, only to conclude that it had reverted after opening the dgn, so before doing anything else. Only after manually changing the setting it is possible to update or place a space with the wanted unit display.
It seems I will have to live with it as long as I keep using this version....  thanks anyway.    André
  • André, did you try viewing the unit display from both Workspace>Preferences *and* Annotate Settings?  When I did this I was able to update an exising space to the expected units.   However, if I did not view it both spots, the units did revert to a different value.   It definitely is odd behavior, but as best I can tell it seems to exist in the older version only

  • Steve, I do have proper access to these files. Each time I close a file and open another, the setting reverts to 'meters'. Viewing alone changes nothing to this, I have to manually redo the setting (change meters to m2) before I can place or update spaces. After this change of the setting I can see that the file annotationsellscaleoverrides.rsc has been written to; the date/time of the file changes. But when I open another file, the setting reverts while this file remains unchanged, as do all the other files in the prefs dir. When I exit microstation, a number of files change: my upf file, tfprefs.rsc, MRUlookups.xml, tabschemes.csv.
Sorry to say your help did not help much so far...   thanks anyway.    André
  • Hi André, in 8.5.2 I believe the space unit value is stored in annotationoverrides.rsc under the home/prefs folder.  Make sure you have proper read/write access to this file & folder.

I did notice that the value doesn't seem to "refresh" itself in both places until you actually view it in both places.   But once both the preferences and annotation settings dialog boxes have been opened, the value displays correctly in both spots and updates spaces as expected.  I don't recall coming across this in later versions.
