We have been seeing an issue with ALL instance data being stripped off of doors when attempting to edit the data attached to our doors.
When attempting to add/modify instance data (either in the datagroup explorer or by right clicking a specific door) all instance data of the door being edited is deleted, not just the field we are attempting to modify - completely wiped out - gone. I don't have a clue where to begin to troubleshoot this issue.
An undo can bring back the data. Somebody please point me in the right direction. Thanks.
BA version is: 08.09.04.46
That sounds about right. Each instance in the DGN file has specific DG properties written to it, using the schema as it existed at time of placement. If that schema is changed - such as renaming an existing property - the data written to the instance no longer "lines up" with the information in the dataset. And that can cause problems downstream.

We did add new .xsd data to our doors and noticed that some of our property names were duplicated in the other .xsd files attached to the doors. Funny that we saw this behavior a month ago but only on one of three computers. This time around all three are affected. We were able to correct the problem by selecting all the entries in the datagroup explorer and modifying one property in all the entries that we didn't use. For whatever reason making this change allowed us to then change the properties without issues. We have also cleared out the duplicate property names that existed.
The duplicate names were also causing problems with our schedule layouts.
Thanks for the help and info.
Our problems have not been fixed. It has reared it's ugly head again.
I have made a copy of our project and all information for testing but have come up with nothing that will fix this issue. Is there anything we can do short of removing and replacing all the doors in our project? Not even sure that is the issue.
We are familiar with this problem with the instance data on doors. If you change the Data Definition or add a data definition to the Catalog Type for Doors. This seems to only be a problem with doors. We had hoped the new BD DataGroup Upgrade Utility could be used to get around this problem, but it does not seem to write the newly added definition and we remain with the problem. At times doors lose the Instance Data altogether and it must be added back onto the door to resurrect door data and functionality.
The only solution we have found is if we add an additional data definition we need to touch each and every door and edit something. This only works if the “allow edit” is checked for the door type when we perform the edit. We do not need to change the door type, but the “allow edit” box need to be checked. This seems to allow the new data to be written to the element (or perhaps a new door element since the software may assume that the door type has changed).
As already stated this has existed since BA. I am assuming that no one has ever filed a SR before on this problem. If they have, it has never been addressed. Therefore I am submitting a trouble report to formally identify the bug. It is logged as Service Request number 7000256483.
