Building View Workflow Clarification

I am using the following workflow to setup drawing models and sheet models.
But for some reason, I cannot get the sheet model
to synchronize with the building view. Only the drawing model with synchronize.

1) I create a "building view" in a design model that has a couple of reference files attached.
2) I create a drawing model which references my "building view" and set nest depth to 2.
Synchronize with saved view is toggled "On". Everything shows correctly in drawing model.
3) Then I create a sheet file and reference the "drawing model" that has my building view attached
as a reference and set my nest depth to 3. Everything show correctly in the sheet model.

4) Now if I go to my design model and activate my "building view". Turn off some levels and update "building view".
My understanding is these level on/off changes will propogate through design.

5) When I go to my drawing model with Building View attached the level off/on changes are visible.
As mentioned Synchronize with saved view is toggled "On".

6) Now when I go to my "sheet file" where the building view is attached via the Drawing Model
The level changes are not indicated. The only way I can get the changes to show is to detach file
and reattach.

My question is may workflow flawed by not attaching the Building View directly to my
Drawing Model and my Sheet Model. Or should I be able to attach my Building View
as a nested reference through the drawing model and still have the changes propogate to sheet model.

Any Help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tom

  • Hi Tom,

You're welcome.  There definitely seems to be something happening with DV synchronization when it comes to reference file levels, but what that is I'm not quite sure.   But at least you should be able to "refresh" the Sheet without having to completely detach and reattach the Drawing Model.   That way you don't lose any modifications you may have done to that reference attachment.
