Recesses in Walls in Bentley Architecture

Hi there,

I have recently started using Bentley Architecture and unlike 3D Microstation where i can Imprint shapes onto solids, then push/pull/manipulate to my liking I have not found a similar tool in B.A. I am modelling structural timber walls that need openings for windows. I have managed to punch openings in walls but know would like to put recesses on either side of the wall and still maintain it as a single solid entity.

Any help would be great!

Thanks in advance,

Catherine

  • Catherine,

You can use the same Cut Solid by Curves tool on Bentley Architecture walls that you used on MicroStation solids.

If you want to place a recess in a BA wall:

    •  Draw a closed shape that defines the shape of the recess on the face of the wall.
    •  Open the Cut Solid Tool
    •  Change the Cut direction to Forward or Back
    •  Change the cut mode to Define Depth
    •  Turn on Cut Depth and set the depth of your recess
    •  Select the wall.
    •  Select the shape.
    •  Review the cut direction(toggle cut direction between Forward and Back)
    •  Accept the cut with a data point in the view window.

The recess will be a feature of the wall and can be manipulated on the wall by holding down the CTRL key while selected the feature using the MicroStation Move, Copy, Array, Rotate and Mirror tools.  (Features will show as dashed green shapes when you select them this way.)
