Problems running the latest Mechanical V8XM and V8i with Microsoft 7 PRO. These programs worked well with Windows XP and since we have upgraded our hardware with Windows 7 PRO we cannot get the Mechanical program to work under the user login. If I am logged in as the Domain Administrator the program works fine. We have changed the permissions for the user to have full control of the folder associated with the Bentley program and have turned off the UAC and still cannot get it to work. I have been told be Building Support that I have to be logged on as the Domain Admin for this to work but we cannot give Admin rights to everyone. Can anyone tell me what we are doing wrong or does this program not work on Windows 7 with a user login????
Versions we tried:
V8XM
08.09.04.88 MS
08.09.06.06 MEC
V8i
Latest versions of all

Mark, do you anything similar to this?
We recently overhauled and set up a new V8i workspace on the server and it is almost completely read only with the exception of a few files/folders such as the metadata folder within the BBES dataset directory and dwgdata for translations. I'm sure I'll come across more as additonal projects begin in this new workspace. Regarding Windows 7, we've only rolled it out to a few machines and haven't had to change permissions to anyone's "Program Files\Bentley" yet. I suggested the "Program Files\Bentley" permission tip since I had similar issues while testing "out of the box" workspace functionality in MicroStation V8i and Windows 7... and Vista on my machine. The Program Files permission issue may go back to XP SP3 or 4... not sure. I don't see any harm in allowing full control for local users to the Program Files\Bentley directory... for all Bentley applications???

I would concur with Mark on this one. While I am not personally running BBMS on Win7, I know many of our users are and most are not granted admin rights. So there must be something in your user profile that is not providing the required Write access. For example, if you enable Write access to the main Workspace folder and allow those rights to trickle down to the sub-folders, I'd imagine that should work.
Anthony, I can't tell you what's wrong, but I can confirm that the BBMS SS1 V8i (08.11.07.55) works fine on my Windows 7 Enterprise workstation. Although I am a network admin, I am typically logged in as a domain user and it works fine. I do have UAC set to "Never Notify" and I also gave "computer users" full permissions to the Bentley folder within C:\Program Files. Also, you may check the compatibility mode and set it to Windows XP SP3. Right-click your BBMS icon and select Properties. Select the Compatibility tab. See attached image.
