Tasks pane

Hi All!

I hope you can help me out, I am in a little pickle here. I installed Bentley Architecture on my laptop and now my settings is out. I tried other help methods but is stuck to do this on my own.

Some problems did get sorted but the one thing that is still very annoying as I become use to the way it was displayed on my desktop, is the appearance of my tasks. It now looks like this:

(and these are the only tasks listed in this list, I can select 'Tasks' in the Tools>Tool Boxes tab but it will not dock and appear like this.

And I really would like it to look like this again:

.

I also need the tasks to react the way I am used to and doubt if this is a default setting. Normally, when you select, for example: 'Drawing' from the tasks, it becomes the 'active' functions and the only tools you see is the tools under the drawing tab. When I am done with the drawing tools, I just click on the grey area where 'tasks' is written and it brings up all the tabs again to make a new selection easy. Any idea where this setting is?

Appreciate any help or advice you can give, who knows, it might even solve one of my other problems :)

  • What you are seeing is only the "Views and Sheets" task. Bentley Architecture has 5 different tasks that can be loaded: Architecture, Drawing, Manipulation, Views and Sheets and MicroStation Tasks. These are opened from the Architecture pull-down menu.

To get the task interface to look like your second screen capture go to the Tools pull-down menu and select "Tasks". Basically what this does is loads the MicroStation task interface with each of the Bentley Architecture tasks included as "workflows".

I think that will get you waht you want.

  • Thank you Paul.

I did find the tasks tools in the tools> tool boxes pull down menu and it had all the tools I wanted, but it was not  able to dock in the left pane. What do I need to do to be able to see it as workflows?

And seeing that you understand my layman language :), once I activated the workflows correctly, will this react the way I am used to? For instance at the moment when I see all the workflow tabs, and I need for instance the Architecture tools, I click on the Architecture tab and it opens up all (and only the architecture) tools.

While I see only the architecture tools, I can still see the wording ' Tasks' in the grey are (in the first clip it says 'views and sheets' and the second clip it says 'Tasks' - to the left of the 'pin/unpin/close icons). I want to see this wording 'Tasks' all the time, because if I do, I can click on it and it will take me back to open all the tasks, after which I can once again choose to select (for example) the drawing toolbox and it will open up all the drawing tools. And so on...

  • Hello, maybe try this: choose tools > tasks. For me, this brings up the tasks pane with all MS and BA tasks. You can easily dock it and there you go, behavior is just as you described. If not, you might have to look into the dgnlibs where customisations are made? (Through this I added a task of my own with all old Settings Manager goodies I had from the past. And it also shows up in the same task pane!) By the way I see after posting this that this is exactly what Paul told you, did you try it?

  • Hi Andrè.

Thank you for helping with this issue. Yes I did try that, my problem is that once I opened the tasks, it becomes a single tab to dock with the drop down list, (it docks to the far left of the screen and the 'views and sheets' tab stays the same). I would really like it to display as workflows. In other words, I would like it to dock with those blue arrow 'handles', when using this method, it appers as workflows, but it does not give that option.

By the way I did look at the dgnlibs, but my desktop and laptop all point to the same dgnlibs.

Thanks for you time with this issue

The first thing I do is close the "Views and Sheets" task. Then I am opening Tools > Tasks. It docks itself to the left, you may have to dock it. You can see I have the workflows now listed. When I select the "Architecture" workflow the architecture tools are presented. At the top of the tasks pane I can select the "Tasks" tab to go back to seeing all the workflows.

I think the key was that I had to close the "Views and Sheets" task first.
