With that in mind. I look at the examples used for building models with BA and NONE HAVE DETAIL?

in fact I can create them all without BA?
We finished our formation today. Arrffff. Our 3D formation (V8 2004 to V8I+architecture) was only concerning 3 persons that know triforma. For the 4 other, it is going to wait...because of workflow essentially.

The DEM don't work with most of my cell (and working well in triforma for the same cells same files). I am waiting yet for Bentley 's solutions...

The DV are ok but pb to print them (my pen table don't work with DV??) And printing with rasterised option....15 min to make a print files to the Printer or to make a pdf. How long takes time to print DV ? or there is option i don't know??

Im agree with you emilberger. But i'm working in a office of etude (sorry for my english, i'm french). I draw sewage water and waste water station. it appeared that , regarding to my company workflow, we don't need solutions than piping or other. We make conception of station but we don't need too evolved software to calculate pressure for exemple... It's not the drawer 's job (in my company). So regarding to our wokflow, Architecture was the most recommended for us even if we draw water treatment station (we have only make some macro for making pipes for exemple...). We are Constantly doing modifications on our sheets. So DV seems to be good for that (DEM calculate was too long). But there is other pb they don't exist in the 2004 version.

But i'm agree with you no more details on our sheets. But another intersting way to work in 3D because most of our drawer are in 2d.

So for the moment i have some stations that are waiting for me. And We are taking time to adopt a good workflow (when we will have bentley returns). Just a workflow working for the moment and a good after.lol.

regards

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

I like dv

Most issues I have is speed an a work flow

Work flow become issues when something needs to be developed in a certain masion

This may be the steps to create a good pcs cell

To things you currently should not do in compound cells at this time

To the wrong file type being referenced into another file

Most of these issues are TRs and were difficult to find as they are suppressed to work and in all three of these they do work. ---- sometimes.

These three items effect for me plotting, dwg and v8 translations but never work or viewing.

Then you add the time because of speed (45 minutes to create a dwg file) and you have 100 of them needed this afternoon for an engineer. Wellbyou get the drift.

My next job will be easier. I know most of the pitfalls and a workflow. Most people are just now finding these issues in there jobs and do things like avoid dv for dem. Which losses the things that are good.

So I go back. To a simple question . And even simpler.

Do your plans show more information on a wall than the shape. (hatches, centerlines, etc.?)

So that worker can graphically see what a wall is made of?

And does your section have the same detail?

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

i'm agree but i can't print my DV. my pen table didn't work with the DV!!! it's why i want a 2d physical files. But even if i only work with DV (and i can print in Blackandwhite), the refresh of my view with 4 or 5 DV is not terrible.

I HAVEN'T TELL YOU THAT I HAVE A FRENCH VERSION. lol. i tell that because our teacher say us that there is some bugs on the french version. It's not the same software!!! lol.

So i wait for bentley...and we start Architecture tomorrow. All is ok.lol.

I have found a manual "Best practices Creating and Using Building Views in Bentley Architecture V8i" and i work like it is writing but...

See you later, i'll make a post when i have solutions.

Regarding the ABD workspace, it is different than all previous versions. So whatever you've changed to work with Bentley Architecture will most likely have to change for ABD. I would recommend downloading the beta II when available to at least get a feel for how things have changed.

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

Thanks steve but i have try tu use "save as" with the "merge visible edges option but i have exactly the same render than with an exportation. some BA elements (not many) who are unified, hidden and holed don't appeared. If not hidden, ok or if holed and unifies but not hidden ok.... only when the three things are right, there is pb. Not in my DV, only on my 2d file. So i wait for Bentley.

A question on SS3. We have installed SS2 and remake our config (V8 2004 + TRIFORMA to V8I + ARCHITECTURE). If i decide to install SS3, what about my config and my macro?? no pb of compatibility? and Architecture + SS3 ?

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

One of the advantages of DVs is that the calculate/recalculate workflow is not needed since everything is in real time. One of the disadvantages of DVS is, well, that everything is in real time. :) The performance aspect on large models can be noticable, which is why Ss3 is focused on that aspect.

I don't work with pen tables myself, so hopefully someone else can chime in.

Regarding 2D files, instead of exporting visible edges froim your sheet (which references the DV) do a Save As DGN with the Reference File options enabled and Merge Visible Edges checked on. That should give you a "flattened" version of what you see in the live DV.

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

Hi

i have read your messages and allow me to ask a question (SS2 + Architecture).

In V8 2004, i have use DEM and it was very long to calculta my 2d. we are going to use V8I SS2. we have remake our config. We have pb to make extraction with the DEM (some cells are not calculate but works in TF with V82004). So i want to use DV with the construction tab but i have 2 pb.

First is that if i decide to only use DV to make my sheet, when i print them with a pen table it's not working. The color don't change or not all. Are you printing your dv with pen table? Is it working? Maybe i havent see some parameters?

Second is that i have to make 2d files (for partners and customers) with this sheet. so i use save as with visible edges (is there another method?) but with the exact method i have some hidden line (only on BA elements who are unified, hidden and holed!!!). Is anyone have this pb to make a 2d files with a sheet makes with DV ?

Thanks for your answer.

Bye

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

Damon, I'm not sure about the file size aspect, but it might be worthwhile giving beta II of AECOsim Building Designer a whirl when it's available - which should be within the next few weeks (famous last words!). DV performance has been a key factor for the upcoming Ss3 release, including the new Cached Visible Edges option which gives 2D-like performance with view navigation.

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

Yes but from wat you say in previous posts on this forum, your models are very big in what I call overdone, as you do all the detail in your models. I try to keep it to modelling only the outline to produce my general sections only and I have very fast DEMS that work great. It never used to take more than half an hour to process all my plans, sections and elevations.

From what you say in your posts only one of your sections take half and hour using DEM. I just avioid having that problem right from the start.
I just add detail over the top of my clipped details, which only realy is about 10% of the project in 2d at the most.

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

I had slow issues with DEM though as I was constantly ahving to remake DEMs then the models got so complicated that DEMs crash and I could not longer create 2d files.

Re: BV, DV and detail of design

Not to mention that with DEM my model files generally get to about 5- 20 Mb per file

and plot files never really exceeded 1Mb.

Now with BV's my model files have balloned out to 30Mb (the ones with DV's in them. and my plot files (sheet files) are also getting up to 13Mb and climbing all the time. everytime I change the model the DV recalculates and my sheet file gets bigger. This should just be a straight reference of my 3d model I woulda thought.. but no. It doesnt work that way.

My CAD manager had to disable all his highly elaborate file checking scrptis as they were kicking me out of Mstn all the time as I was exceedding the file limits.. (multiple offices using a VPN so this is necessary to reduce network traffic interoffice.) I now have to compress and delete Building View accelerators to make the file size limit a decent time.

BUT BV';s are soooooo slllloooowwwwwww when doing this its just annoying working at snails pace.
