Parametric Cell Studio

Why is there not that much information about Parametric Cell Studio. Or am I just looking in the wrong places. Does anyone know if there is a publication on Parametric Cell Studio? Or is the only information about it you can learn from the Bentley Institute?

  • The PCS is not difficult to learn. There are like 15 commandos, so you go through the whole html-manual pretty fast.
BUT: it's very difficult to use. First of all it's very limited in commandos and it needs a lot of thinking ahead before you start making something. You need to think which links you want between the elements, and which parameters are manipulating the others. One mistake can make you start all over again. And second: it's terribly difficult to draw something. You should be able to draw like you do in microstation.

I spend one evening creating a door (simular the the ones you get with the dataset). This needs to be faster/easier!

  • Although a long-term project, the changes in MicroStation CONNECT regarding 3D constraint modeling is where ABD is headed:

  • Steve,

I cannot open the second link. I get a message that I need to be signed in - while I am signed in...

Concerning the first link: the Parametric Content Modeler; is this the Parametric Modeling integrated now in Microstation Connect?

Can you give an idea when we will be able to use these Microstation Parametric Cells in ABD to make doors and windows? For now I see no possibility to define perforators...

  • Hi Luc,

Ah... sorry about that.  The second link was to a thread on the former MicroStation CONNECT EAP forum, so if you hadn't been a member you won't be able to load it.    Here is the relevant text from that post that may also answer your first question:

"What was once called "PCM" is now functionality found in MicroStation.  It has been integrated into the 3D modeling workflow as tools found in the Constraints, Solids, and Content ribbon groups.   There is also a list of the new parametric and constraint tools in the "What's New" section of the product documentation."

Regarding a timeline, this post describes the initial plans for ABD CONNECT:

As Tom points out it's simply too early to guesstimate a timeline for when some of the new CONNECT technology may be incorporated to further enhance the parametrics engine in ABD.
