Yes, the IFC2x3 Dataset Extensions are still valid, work in conjunction with AECOsim Building Designer datasets, and can be downloaded from Product Line: 'Building Analysis and Design' and Download Category 'Enhancements and Updates'.

If shapes with instance data for Project, Site and Building are found, then those property values are exported; otherwise just the strings on the 'Comment' tab for Project, Site and Building are exported without any property values. In that case, the message in the Message center says: No shapes found for Project, Site and Building, which is informational, not an error message.

FYI. We plan to improve spatial containment in the Building Designer refresh release.

I have checked the AECOsim GB dataset and the extensions are not included. Looking on the Select site the download file is dated 14th may 2010. is this the latest available?

I'be not tried it but there is config that can be switched on the the delivered GB dataset so I'd guess yes.

I was about to post a question, but I assume from this answer that the IFC2x3 extension is still valid in AECOsim?

I'd agree with Tom, you need to read the documentation, there are conventions you must use if you want to get a valid ifc file which includes floor zones for example.

Its well documented in the guide Tom has highlighted.

the IFC2x3 extension is still there but you need to search for it under Bentley Architecture not AECOSIM

This document may help. Originally created for 08.11.07 but concepts may still work AECOsim.

It outlines how Building stories are created through references.

I find the document very helpful in this respect.

The comments tab is also discussed. However, what it fails to mention

is the Project, Building, and Site Data comes from a datagroup instance that has

been attached to an element in a file.

Not sure if it is still available for download. But IFC 2x3 extensions was available for download

Ian: to my knowledge, the items you see here are filling out Ifc Class types or IFC Entities that help document the IFC file. For example, all of the Modifying Person items (with the exception of 'Organization') will fill out the IfcPerson entity in the schema. Organization goes to IfcOrganization, etc.

While you are right, it does serve to document the file itself, it looks like it's doing it in a way to present a simple way via the dialog box and populating those entities for you vs. you have to pick and choose through the process and find the entity.
