Assigning Catalogue Definition to a Part

Can you assign Catalogue Definitions to a part (NOT compound part)??   IE for a wall build up, I create the 'brick part' and the 'cavity part' and the 'plaster board part' etc. can I then assign Catalogue Definitions to the 'brick part' like type colour and manufacturer then other Catalogue Definitions to another part eg the 'plaster board part'?  And then build a compound wall that holds the breakdown information of the 'parts'?

It is an easy process to assign to the Compound Wall but it does not seem to work for the parts, ideally I would also like to schedule this data out.  I feel it would be valid to assign specific information to the individual parts of the wall as these parts are used over again in differing build ups.  Assigning bulk information to a complex Compound Part does seem to at times over complicate.

Any assistance, greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • I'm not sure what you mean by Catalogue Definitions in this context?

We typically use that term as property defintions that are used by DataGroup catalog types, but DG data isn't "assigned" to parts in any fashion. IOW, you wouldn't see a reference to DG data in Dataset Explorer.  In fact it's the opposite -  a family + part can be assigned within a DG catalog item for certain components.
