We found this presentation online about AECOsim, which mentions (p19):
"unification across families: no longer an issue in BuildingDesigner"
(source: http://www.evolve-consultancy.com/article.php?incat_id=162&category_id=15)
how do you make this work? When chosing a unifier part I only see the ones within the same family to chose from...
Here the answer I got from Nigel Davies (thanks!): problem solved. (except for the cross-family-unification-functionality we would like to have, e.g. unifying a concrete in-situ floor with a concrete in-situ wall display in a section, which should be in different families)
"That slide was specifically about project datasets, and I talked about how to avoid problems with families in a central Workspace and a project. In previous versions, you couldn’t create a Family in a project dataset with the same name as a Family in the Workspace. Therefore if you wanted, for example, a project-specific wall to unify with other Parts from the Workspace, you would have to make duplicates of the Parts in the project dataset.
e.g.
Now, however, you can name Families the same in multiple .xml files, and they will be shown as a single Family, removing the need for duplication and allowing project-specific and Workspace Parts to unify.e.g.
After two year did you solve this problem ?
Michael Arens could you make video for your solution
No, parts across families of different names is not yet supported. What Michael is referring to is the ability to have separate XML files with the same family name, located in different folders if needed, which does allow unifiers to be stored in a separate file - that was the main request in the past.
Thank you Steve for clarification
