The error message pops up only when I am working within a specific project folder. Its been going on for a while but I have not really had time to investigate it, So I just tolerate it. But its very annoying.
It only happens when I open files within a particular project and also during operations involving Moving from border views to Design viewsa, also opening the view attributes dialog box( It takes about 3 minutes to bring this box up) or attaching or exchanging references within the same project.
The error message indicates that . . . .
AECOsimBuildingDesigner stopped working
A software error has occurred; we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. This error has been logged locally. Please send this error log using the option below. Reporting an error log will . . . .etc etc
It then gives you the option of dismissing the log
When you opt to dismiss the log another box pops up saying
ABD has detected a problem and logged it to . . . . C\ Users\etc\ . . . . . . .\8.11\u6tYqoPpYY2l_HCCz00i0A\ExceptionHistory\
it then gives you the option to Abort, Retry or Ignore.
Ignore will happily take you into the file where you can continue working, until of course you need to perform one of the above operations again.
If you haven't already done so, I would definitely recommend sending in those error logs using the automated system. The type of error you are experiencing is commonly referred to as an "exception error", and could have a number of different causes. They aren't unique to Bentley products though, it's just our logging system that is.
The only thing I can recommend off the top of my head is to open these problem files and immediately compress them with all compress options enabled. Reopen the file and continue working to verify whether there is any change in behavior.
You could also try copying those specific files locally just to rule out a network glitch and/or bad sector on the hard drive (slim chance, I know, but could be worth trying).
Unlike copressing an ordinary Mircrostation file If you compress a BIM model file doesn't that purge out all the essential layers and other bits and pieces required?
Yes, it will remove the DV related levels and shared cells. But those things will be added back in the next time the file is opened. I was thinking along the lines of removing everything that is not used by the DGN file as a baseline, and then moving forward from there.
