I am using the update 1 version of AECOsim 08.11.09.376 and been finding some strange behaviour when trying to edit the Architectural Rules.
I go to the Architectural tab on the Building View settings and see the list of Rules available if I select one and go 'Edit Rule' the second dialog opens but is empty !!!! (See Below)
I can go to other projects and it is populated ?? If I try to ADD a new rule it will allow me to create it and it will appear on the right dialog window but then will not allow me to 'Add' it to the list on the left.
Has anyone seen this or have any idea what is causing it ??
Thanks & Regards
John
It sounds as though your drawing rule files are missing in that project. By default they're located under C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i\WorkSpace\BuildingDatasets\Dataset_Name\rules\
Even with the rule files missing, the drawing seeds will still display the rules they were created with in the respective discipline tab.
That is correct, and I'm guessing this is on the GB Dataset. The solution I found was to make a copy of the drawing rules at project level.
Must be something to do with the GB configuration - the rules are available in the GB dataset and at system level but don't appear to be seen by AECOSIM.
Hmmm... there must be something happening. This is what I see when using ABD 8.11.9.376 with the GB dataset:
Hi Steve, Robert,
I have had a further look at this, my default Dataset_GB install works just as you show above Steve with a fully populated list. However, I have a copied the GB Project and Dataset that I have set up to test various configurations, this one shows the empty dialog that I posted previously. I have also seen this on customer sites that have networked workspaces, but I think the common theme here is the rules in these cases have been either been modified or added to in the past.
What I discovered is, the datasets showing the 'blank' list had a Architectural.rul file that was 2kb, on the datatsets that had a populated list it was 4kb. When I copied the 4kb files to replace the 2kb ones then I had the list back again. it was as if the Architectural.rul file had been 'wiped' of the rule listing.
I will try to reproduce the workflow that caused this

Interesting, John... if you can figure out what caused the rule file to "blank out" it could certainly be helpful!
We are experiencing a similar issue with the structural rules. Haven't figured it out yet. It's not predictable. Opening a drawing model may or may not cause the rule file to be wiped. Had to resort to write protecting the file. Haven't had time to figure it out.
Check whether your rule was originally from an earlier version of ABD. Our QA team discovered that this "blanking out" only seems to occur with older drawing rule files.
