Hi Chris, sorry, you are right about the reference mirror case, I didn't test that one.
Please can you file a Service Request, post the number here and I'll link it to a defect.
Number of SR's linked to a defect is an important part of our prioritisation process.

Hi Chris,
No, the behavior hasn't changed since the original query above, for the same reason - the reference attachment is treated as a single entity. I've just tested this in MicroStation CONNECT and it is the same.

It may be worthwhile posting to the Modeling and Visualization Forum to check with the MicroStation folks whether there's anything in the pipeline for something like this or if others have any suggestions.

Hi Mark, yes it does when you mirror a stair in an active file BUT it doesn't when the stair is in a reference file that is mirrored. At least not at this end... tbc...As an aside, the reference mirror tool could do with a few more choices just as in the "live" tool - mirror about a line for instance, mirror-copy ( at present must copy first THEN mirror...) etc.

Bear in mind this is stuff I see was queried 5 or 6 years ago - although in the context of plain Microstation... But anyhow it's pretty useful to be able to mirror a reference without mirroring the text - as for instance in a duplex typical unit in a residential development.

Alternative would be to create a cell, but a different problem arise with cells in DV - the unification doesn't occur... Not to mention that for a cell that includes a stair, the origin of the cell has to be chosen to be at (0,0,0) otherwise the cell's stair will not be in the original location... At least AFAIK :-(((

I guess in the meantime we should revert to annotating stair numbers on the sheet/drawing... But from a BIM perspective (or is BIM just another paradigm?), this does seem outrageous does it not...

Chris - sorry for confusion.

I am saying and agree with the same as you, and question the same results you are seeing.

Use the stair tool to create a 3d Stair. Reference that model several different ways, rotated, flipped, it should not matter.

Then when the extraction looks at it it - should then always create parallel to the run of the stair and to the orientation of the view when created

There are alot of cells and such that do not take advantage or orientation. A Point cell for text should correct this and be used in some cases.

I'll leave that up to the programmers.

Sure Eric, but remember the whole point was to have 1 master core in this case that can be referenced AND mirrored ...

I would think the solution would be to mirror the 3d stair into a 3d master model then the extraction would not do this...

Not that I've ever tried this, but I believe it's because the stair itself isn't being mirrored, but a static representation of it via the mirrored reference attachment. I'm not so sure there's any way around that - the same thing happens with other annotation such as Door and Window IDs, and even plain text.
