Could someone at Bentley confirm if they intend to be certified as part of the buildingSMART open BIM certification? See http://www.buildingsmart.org/certification It appears that all the other big names have followed this routes so I wondered why Bentley hadn't.
add my name to the list.
Thanks,
Shawn

I'm guessing my the lack of response from Bentley that they don't consider this to be important and sums up Bentley s lack of will to provide IFC compliant software. There must be something in this if the top players are able to get their programs through the certification. What are Bentley doing about this, if anything?
Hi Stuart,
AECOsim Building Designer SS4 has significantly extended IFC capabilities including COBie export that will help with meeting current UK government requirements.
The following post is now out of date as SS4 was released recently but gives an indication of the current commitment: communities.bentley.com/.../237681.aspx
I don't know what the current position is regarding BuildingSmart.
Regards
Marc
As a founding member of the IAI and active participant in many buildingSMART activities and initiatives around the world, top-quality support for IFC as the key interoperability standard for cross-discipline coordination across disparate BIM applications is certainly a very important issues for Bentley; see our IFC White Paper ftp2.bentley.com/.../White_paper_IFC.pdf.
Initially, we applied for and started 'IFC2x3 Coordination View 2.0 - Architecture' certification of Bentley Architecture, which had been certified for the IFC2x3 Extended Coordination View (v1.0) in March 2007. However, having merged our discipline-specific architectural, structural and MEP applications into one interoperable BIM application, we have revised our application to have 'AECOsim Building Designer' certified for all 3 disciplines.
Last year, we focused our development on supporting COBie (Construction Operations Building information exchange) in AECOsim Building Designer, as COBie is increasingly becoming a mandatory contract deliverable in the U.S. and other countries, and participated successfully in the buildingSMART Alliance 'COBie Challenge 2013' (see link in Marc's post and my follow-up post of April 30 at http://communities.bentley.com/products/building/building_analysis___design/f/5917/p/86071/242965.aspx#242965).
I hope this assures you of Bentley's commitment to FC-based project coordination and interoperability.
Regards,
Volker
Volker, thanks for the info.
So, as to Stuart's question: You've applied for the certification on ABD instead of individual products, and are awaiting confirmation from buildingsmart?
