Hi,
I'm having a bit of trouble with manual placement of Datagroup annotation cells. I'm trying to create a column tag which reports the column "ID | Number" as a line of text at 45 degrees adjacent to the column.
The field reports fine and the placement works perfectly with automeatic placement via a custom annotation rule. I've even set them up as point cells so they rotate to align with the view (ie they're at 45degrees no matter what orientation the drawing has). However, as noted in my previous posts: http://communities.bentley.com/products/building/building_analysis___design/f/5917/p/92301/265562.aspx#265562 our workflow is unlikely to use automatic annotation. Instead we will want to manually place them to ensure the annotation does not overlap other information.
Unfortunately when I try to manually place the datagroup annotation cell the text always rotates to align with the view and my 45degree orienation is lost. Other graphic elements within the cell retain their orientation. I can manually rotate the cell 45 degrees thereafter but I can't understand why the text is behaving in this way. I've tried changing the cells from graphic to point with no success.
Any thoughts appreciated...

Hello Mark,
I ran through your scenario with our sample project and got the same results, the annotation cell graphics place at whatever rotation they are created in and the text aligns with the view. So what I did was create the cell and graphics at 0°. Then went to my drawing and rotated the view 45°, using the rotate by 2 points method, then placed the cell. The cell placed aligned with the view, so it ends up at a 45° angle. I rotate my drawing back to unrotated and the cell stays at the 45° rotation. I tried placing cells on my drawing and on the sheet, rotating the sheet view like I did in the drawing view. It worked on the sheet tooI also modified a column to a different profile and the annotation updated and stayed rotated. I used the Section Name DG property but it will work for any DG property.
Thanks for verifying Paul,
Your rotate-view solution is a viable workaround and achieves the same result as rotating the cells after placement (I've used an Active Point in the cell so the rotation is about the cell origin and numerous tags can be rotated in one operation using rotate About Element Centre).
I believe the self-rotating text means that the DataGroup Annotation cell cannot include text with different rotations?
I'd rather be able to switch off the self-rotating text and use point cells instead to achieve the view alignment behaviour (these would ensure the whole cell rotates to the view orienation, rather than just the text component).
