BBMS Dataset Explorer

Hi

In Bentley Building Mechanical System BBMS V8i > Dataset Explorer, there is a Thickness and Height columns, what are they used for?

when I place a Duct, I can see W1 D1 etc, So I need to know what the thickness and height are used for.

Many thanks

  • I am assuming you ask this question to find a way to set defaults for the duct sizes.

If you want to set the default sizes of a mechanical component, like Rectangular duct, you can set the defaults in the Datagroup Catalog Editor, however this is only work if you haven't yet placed one of those ducts on that machine.  After you have placed a rectangular duct, the default sizes are stored by default in the bminstancedataprefs.xml file in c:\Users\(Your USERNAME)\AppData\Local\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner\8.11\(unique gibberish based on version)\prefs\

You can edit that xml file or just delete it and the software will recreate it as you place mechanical items with the defaults in the Datagroup Catalog.

Tip:  If you switch between metric and imperial projects on the same machine, the bminstancedataprefs.xml should be deleted between the switching or your default sizes will be wildly off.  (A 50 mil minimum length in a metric project will be interpreted as a 50 inch minimum length in an imperial project.)  You can also set the variable _USTN_HOMEPREFS to separate folders for imperial and metric projects in the pcf of the projects.  This will force AECOsim to maintain separate pref files for each measuring system.

    Hope this helps,

    Noel
