Determining the color of rendered spaces by using the family and part of the space

I have set this up, supposedly correctly using the family and parts system, cut fill colors have been set and the spaces have been placed, however the documentation does not give any further clarification as to which models or drawings to reference into what to achieve the rendered spaces on the plot sheets.  So far I cannot get the colors to appear.  I have also tried using thematic maps but the colors are hidden beneath the solid objects or hide the elements below them if the reference display update up date sequence is changed.    Can anyone shed some light on these or any other methods of achieving colored planning drawings from AECOsim models?

  • Not sure I follow so a small question or two first

Do you have one model only or a group of small models referenced into one?

Do you have DV's created and do those look correct?

If Yes - Do you have those DV referenced onto Drawing file (2d)  if it is 3d you will have issues

Then the drawing files with  its annotations onto a sheet

The process must be models - model - DV - Drawing Model with Annotations - Ref DM on to sheets (2d)

  • The set up comprises a group of small models all referenced into a composite model. where the DV's have been created and transferred to drawings and the drawings including annotations will end up in plot sheets.  As the current set of information is being prepared for planning, My main objective is to illustrate the various categories of spaces using color fills, so that these appear in the plot sheets without obliterating the solid objects and annotations.  I have already mentioned the 2 or 3 methods I have explored and the difficulties I have encountered.  I was hoping for some further suggestions.

The option I would have like to explore more fully is mentioned in the attachment however the information is very scant and I cant seem to get the operation to work.

  • Jydeda,

If you have the Filled Spaces option ON, but the spaces are co-planar or contained within the solid geometry of a slab, then they will not display with the color fill.  You could try one of a couple different things.

First, you could move the spaces up vertically so that they are slightly above the slab to see if they are then filled with the Part's color.

You could also leave the spaces in the same location and turn off the level for the slabs (or whatever solid geometry may be masking the space).

Lastly, if there is nothing in the forward view other than the spaces and possibly a slab, you could turn the Forward View Display Style for the DV from Forward-Drawing to Wireframe.  This will still display the spaces as filled if you have the Filled Spaces option ON.

    I hope this helps,

    Travis
