Good evening. I'm actual a student doing research using BIM for my dissertation. May I know if I can run energy simulation for a residential building which is using only ceiling fans for the rooms? If yes, how do I do the setting on the HVAC?
Hi Praakash,
May I know what results are you willing to simulate? A ceiling fan neither cools the room nor it adds any extra air to it, hence its completely a passive measure of enhancing thermal comfort (which can not be simulated with a HVAC system). It would be great if you could explain the purpose a bit more.
Thanks,
Krishnendu
Hi Mr. Krishnendu,
Thank you very much for the reply
Sorry for the double post. This post was flagged as spam, so I post again. I'm actual trying to compare the energy consumption of two different HVAC. So was wondering whether we can simulate ceiling fan.
Hi Prakaash,
No worries,
A ceiling fan does not fall under a HVAC equipment as it does not have the facility to treat your air, it can increase the air circulation by elevating the speed, and that helps the occupants in evaporating their sweat quicker than regular time, giving them thermally better situation. So a ceiling fan can not be considered as an active system.
I hope that clarifies your thoughts.
