It seems that I cannot hatch a flooded space using the hatch or cross hatch element tool. If the space has been placed manually using the 'Draw Space' tool then it can be hatched. Our preference is to flood areas to create spaces as it is the quicker procedure.
It is true that a flooded space does not allow a Hatch/Pattern to be generated using the Element option, similar to how the Hatch/Pattern tool also does not work when selecting a shape that has been added to a cell. Only when the space is placed using an explicit shape is it selectable by the Hatch/Pattern tool > Element option.
If your spaces are generate using the Flood method, we would suggest that you also use the Flood option in the Hatch/Pattern tool. This method simply looks for any enclosed region and is not dependent on the bounding object.
