Sometimes when we create a drawing extraction we don’t get the expected levels for certain components. I've tried changing the Family and Part for some of these elements, but when I recalculate the extraction it again changes the elements back to the original levels. It there anything else that might cause something like this? Or are we going to have to redraw anything that was not drawn in the correct level the first go around?
When calculating drawing extractions, for any element that has a Family+Part assigned it is (by default) that part definition that determines the levels used in the extraction process. When opening the Dataset Explorer to view a part's properties, first change the Parts View drop-down list from "Definition" (the 3D model) to "Drawing Symbology". These are the level & symbology settings that will be applied in the extracted drawing, both for the Section (cut plane) and F&R (forward or reflected) graphics. There are many possible combinations so you'll need to make sure the desired level/symbology settings are chosen.
Even with these default Family & Part assignments, it's also possible to override them within the drawing definition itself. If you open Drawing Extraction Manager and select a drawing definition for editing, you'll see that the Cut Plane View, Forward View and Reflected View tabs all include override options for level & symbology. These are across the board overrides, and will affect all elements that fall along those three regions of the drawing extraction volume.
Lastly, you'll want to make sure that the levels defined by Family & Part and/or DEM overrides are available during the extraction process. It's possible that the dataset is defined with a specific set of DGNLibs/levels available, but when the drawing extractions are calculated that user (for whatever reason) may not have the applicable libraries available, and therefore the extracted elements may not be created on the intended levels.
