If I have a slab containing an opening feature, whether a recess (blind) or thru, is there any way to quantifying the net volume of that slab as well as the volume or surface are of the opening itself?
Yes, using AECOsim Building Designer the DataGroup Explorer can explicitly output the Net volume of a slab. And since the Gross volume is also included, as well as Surface Area of the Form's faces, custom cells could be created in your Excel template that simply calculate the differences. For example, if cell G2 is the Area Right (Gross) and H2 is the Area Right (Net), then "=G2-H2" would calculate the rectangular area of a recess in the right side. Or if cell I2 is the Gross Volume and J2 is the Net Volume, "=I2-J2" would calculate the volume of the opening. See the attached spreadsheet for additional examples.
