Problem Description
How to create a custom Schedule report and also how to add several catalog types into one report?
Steps to Resolve
Including several Catalog Types in one schedule report is available from AECOsim SS5 onwards, see help topic 'Revised Interface for Creating and Modifying Reports' for more details. For instance, in previous versions Concrete and Steel Piles would have been in separate schedules. In SS5 a schedule can be created that contains both.
Here is an example:
Open DataGroup Explorer and click the Create New Schedule icon:
Give your new schedule a name and either select an existing Destination file or create a new one:
Click Edit Schedule Options.
In this example we don't need to see the Architectural Catalog Types so click the arrow to the left of Architectural to collapse that group.
The two Pile types are highlighted in bold as both have instances in the active file.
Select both then click the upper single arrow:
to move them to the right:
Click the Properties tab, then select the properties that you wish to include in your schedule using the left/right arrows:
The order of the properties in the schedule can be changed using the up/down arrow on the right.
Further options to refine the contents and appearance of the schedule are offered by the following three tabs. The Formatting tab for instance allows column headings to be changed from the default of the property name listed to a name that fits in with project or owner standards.
For instance, I don't want to the see the '(Alternate)' after the ID | Name property so I can double click it to edit:
Click OK when complete.
In SS5 the unique properties for each item, Asset Tag , Name, etc., have to be edited interactively. SS6 offers the ability to edit multiple properties via the Edit in Excel feature where the schedule can be exported to an Excel file, have properties such as Asset Tags added using Excel Fill Series tools, then be imported back into the model.
If required the Excel export can be set up to use a company template, inserting the output from ABD at a specified starting cell as described in the help topic 'DataGroup Explorer Excel Export Properties dialog box' (search help with this phrase).
Note: In this example as the first column begins with ID (in Caps) Excel will think the CSV file is a SYLK file, just click OK to continue. To avoid this message in SS5 move a property whose name does not begin with 'ID' to be first or edit the Field Setting > Heading as shown above to remove the 'ID'. We have amended the CSV output in SS6 to avoid this problem.
