Auto-Annotation of Invert Levels Relative to Floor or Site Datum.

      Product(s): AECOsim Building Designer V8i
      Version(s): 08.11.09.816; 10.00.00.154
      Environment:  N/A
      Area:  Plumbing Design
      Subarea:

AECOsim Building Designer SS6 adds a number of enhancements to the Plumbing placement tools. One of these is the ability to place with a Base Offset from the Active floor.

In the illustration below, on the left Base Offset is greyed out as the floor selection is None. On the right Base Offset is available now a floor has been set active:

The Base Offset is currently only used during placement. It does not establish a associative relationship with the floor below.

If the Mechanical Rules are set to include auto annotation such as component inverts or bottom of duct, auto-annotation will show them relative to the floor below.

Be aware that this auto-annotation is calculated from the model during Dynamic View creation so will reflect the floor levels at the time of view creation.

    Problem

In some circumstances inverts are required to be relative to the Site datum.

    Solution

A workflow that can achieve this is as follows:

    • In Floor Manager create a new building, for example 'Building01_DatumOnly' with a single floor at the Site Datum level, as shown below:
    • Create a DGN file specifically for creating drawings showing auto annotation relative to the site datum (I am assuming in this illustration that placing pipework by offset from the floor below is the general workflow).
    • Reference in the appropriate design files. Set the active floor to 'Building01_DatumOnly > Datum'. When DV's are created in this file all invert annotation will be generated relative to the floor 'Datum' as it is the only floor available to this file.
