Problem

A user was having trouble with an installation of AECOsim Building Designer, so uninstalled the application intending to start afresh.

Subsequent installation or uninstallation attempts failed with error messages including:

"isABDInstalled is equal to"

"unRegisterBMCon Path not found"

"There is a problem with the Windows Installer Package..."

An incomplete entry was left in Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Solution

Run Microsoft Fix It: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall

This removed the incomplete entry and allowed a clean install of AECOsim Building Designer.

Alternative Options

If the solution described above does not work or other errors occur it is possible to or use commercial uninstallation tools or to resort to a manual process as described below.

Before starting check for and back up any data files that you may have stored in the folders listed below. If you are connected to a network there should not be anything important. If you are using C:\ProgramData\Bentley\ to store project data there could be a lot of very important data to back up!

Delete all Ss5 related folders from C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\, C:\ProgramData\Bentley\, C:\Users\your.name\AppData\Local\, and C:\Users\your.name\AppData\Local\Temp\Bentley\.

The following is a fairly complete list of all keys and folders relevant to the installation. Follow standard methods of backing up the existing registry data as a safeguard.  Registry editing isn't for everyone, but sometimes it can be a good means of attacking an otherwise "stuck" installation.

In some cases there are single registry entries/folders to delete, and in others there may be multiple ABD Ss5 entries within a single folder or its sub-folders.

Note that "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" in the last few is the unique user GUID.

This is a bit tedious but by removing the relevant parts of the existing install you'll essentially be starting from scratch.

Also, don't forget to disable Windows UAC when reinstalling ABD and the GB dataset to the relevant registry keys will have read/write access.
