Updating Electrical DataGroup data in SS6

      Product(s): AECOsim Building Designer
      Version(s): 08.11.09.829
      Environment: N\A
      Area: Electrical Annotation and Design
      Subarea: N\A

I’ve noticed than in AECOsim Building Designer SELECTseries6, Electrical components now have individual DataGroup Catalog Types and Items applied based on what the object is as opposed to the generic “BBES Element” used in prior versions.   This seems to work great for out of the box components, but how can I upgrade my custom SELECTseries5 data to conform to this change?

    Steps to Accomplish

    1. In AECOsim Building Designer SELECTseries6, open the “Electrical Setup” task panel.

    2. Select the far right icon named “Datagroup Update”.

    3. Once pressed, the command will scan the active design file for all Electrical Symbols that include the legacy DataGroup Catalog Type “BBESData” and Catalog Name “BBES Element”.

    4. As applicable elements are found, the DataGroup Update command will then:
      a. Update them to one of the new DataGroup Catalog Types available in SELECTseries6:

      b. Add that data to the Electrical project database (_bbes folder) as instance data to the respective elements.

       c. Create a project-specific DataGroup Catalog Item:

    5. This process must be followed for all Electrical DGN files included in projects that will be run using SELECTseries6 so that the updated DataGroup data is applied across each project.

    General notes:

    1. The Catalog Type for each component is based on the IFC Class defined in Symbol Manager.  If you have custom symbols, symbol groups and/or libraries, you will need to use Symbol Manager to update those symbols by selecting the applicable Discipline and Catalog Type as shown below.

    2. Instance data from the related application level schemas; i.e., properties contained in the definition files BBES_Equipment_Schedule.xsd, BBES_Lighting.xsd, BBES_Panels.xsd and BBES_Transformer_Schedule.xsd, must only be changed using Symbol Manager as mentioned above and not from the DataGroup Catalog Editor or the Modify Instance Data tool.

    3. Linear elements such as Circuit Lines or Ceiling Grids are not included in the DataGroup Update process since they do not contain DataGroup data.

    4. Raceway components are also excluded from the DataGroup Update process since they are not Symbols and do not have the IFC Class setting.  However, new Raceway components placed within AECOsim Building Designer Ss6 will be assigned to one of two new DataGroup Catalog Types: Cable Carrier Segment (straight sections) or Cable Carrier Fitting (elbows, tees, etc.) with the respective Raceway component type as the DataGroup Catalog Name (Item).
