Problem

What is the difference between the Promote View and Demote View options in the View Attributes dialog and the and how can I make use of these tools?

Solution

In a Promoted View the elements contained in that view are resymbolized to their respective Family + Part assignments. This means, if the Part assigned to a wall defines level/ color 1 in the 3D Model, but is set to use level 2/color 2 along the Cut Plane and level 3/color 3 in the Forward View, then level 2/color 2 and level 3/color 3 is what you should see in the Promoted View. Once promoted, check the Building tab in the View Attributes dialog for the settings that will apply only to the Promoted version. For example, Drawing symbols and Unification.

Also, note that the configuration variable BB_DATASETTLEMENTS configuration variable should have a value of “1” in order to properly support Drawing Views.

In contrast, the Demote View option removes all of these Saved View settings (Building tab) from the 3D model View window except for the Clip Volume itself.
