Structural Quantities in the DataGroup - Steel

Structural Quantities values in the DataGroup are populated from the following sources:

    • Lookup tables of section properties
    • DataGroup Component Properties
    • Calculated values combining the above and data from modelled elements.

The column headings in DataGroup Explorer indicate in some cases which values are either derived from the model or are calculated.

See the 'DataGroup Schemas' page in the 'Structural Quantities' section of AECOsim Building Designer help for a detailed list of the properties.

Of particular importance is to note that the Unit Weight column is populated from the section properties table and is generally a nominal rounded value. This value is used in the 'Weight (Length * Unit Weight)' calculation, the result of this calculation is therefore approximate.

The 'Cross Section Area' column is also populated from the lookup tables. If this column has zero values it will be because the lookup table does not contain cross section area values, these are not included for all regions, the adjacent 'Cross Section Area (Modeled)' column will display the area calculated from the model geometry.

The Material Density column is populated from the DataGroup. In the case of some regional datasets this property has a 0 value that needs to be amended with the correct density for the material. Until this is done several of the subsequent values that are calculated from the Material Density will also show 0 values.

the Weight '(Gross Volume Modeled * Density)', 'Weight (Net Volume * Density)' and '(Net Volume Modeled * Density)' columns use this value to calculate their results, not the nominal section weight from the lookup table so is geometrically accurate.
