• This follows on from Updating/Migrating SS4 Datasets to SS5.
• SS6 will install alongside SS5.

Assumptions:

• This example is based on a networked workspace where the shared workspace in located in drive/share…\V8i_SS5\
• Project data is located in a separate drive/share.

For clarity these locations will be as follows:

• Workspace:        W:\V8i_SS5\
• Projects:              P:\<projectname>

Files in the workspace located outside the dataset(s) will need to be reviewed for changes since this aspect is not covered by this document. Any workspace files that have been customised to your company standards should be included.

The migration from SS5 to SS6 is a straightforward one, the changes have been minimised.

There are two main scenarios for an upgrade sequence

1. Where the delivered dataset has not been modified and all custom families/parts and DataGroup content have been stored in project datasets.
2. Where the delivered dataset has been modified by the addition of Company custom families/parts and DataGroup content in addition to those stored in project datasets.

Other variations are possible, but the steps to upgrade these two will provide general guidance for similar cases.

1. Unmodified Delivered Dataset.

Summary of steps:

1. Create a new network location for your workspace and dataset in parallel to the existing ss5 dataset; e.g., W:\V8i_SS6\.
2. Modify your existing network configuration to use the new location. (The steps required to do this will vary according to the configuration method used to direct AECOsim Building Designer to the network.)
3. Copy existing SS5 workspace folders and contents to the new SS6 folder except for the Building Dataset(s).
4. Copy the delivered SS6 Building Dataset(s) to the SS6 folder in the same location used as by your SS5 workspace. Include the DatasetExtensions folder containing the IFC content.
5. Run the DataGroup Upgrade utility on your project files as described in Upgrade existing elements to current DataGroup System properties
6. Run other Building utilities as required to upgrade project dataset content.
7. Upgrade Floor Manager files as described in Upgrading Floor Master dgnlib from ABD SS5 to ABD SS6

2. Delivered Dataset has Been Modified

Summary of steps:

1. Create a new network location for your workspace and dataset in parallel to the existing ss5 dataset; e.g., W:\V8i_SS6\.
2. Modify your existing network configuration to use the new location. (The steps required to do this will vary according to the configuration method used to direct AECOsim Building Designer to the network.)
3. Copy existing SS5 workspace folders and contents to the new SS6 folder including the Building Dataset(s).
4. Copy your Company Dataset (if you have one) folders from SS5 to SS6.
5. Follow the steps described in C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i Ss6\WorkSpace\BuildingDatasets\Dataset_<regionCode>\Dataset_<regionCode>_Ss6_delta.pdf to add, delete or modify files in the SS5 dataset to match SS6.
6. Run the DataGroup Upgrade utility on your project files as described in Upgrade existing elements to current DataGroup System properties
7. Run other Building utilities as required to upgrade project dataset content.
8. Upgrade Floor Manager files as described in Upgrading Floor Master dgnlib from ABD SS5 to ABD SS6
