Multiple SPC versions exist after installing Building, Plant and Structural applications

 Product(s):AECOsim Building Designer
 Version(s):08.11.09.829
 Environment:N\A
 Area:General
 Subarea:Installation

Problem

We've created a deployment package that includes AECOsim Building Designer Ss6, OpenPlant Modeler Ss5 and STAAD.Pro Ss6, and have noticed that each includes the SPC Server and Structural Property Catalog components.  However, they are not all of the same versions: It seems that AECOsim Building Designer and OpenPlant Modeler both include Bentley SPC Server v8i SS3 08.11.09.38 and Structure Property Catalog V8i SS3 3.1.2.4, while STAAD Pro includes Bentley SPC Server V8i SS4 8.11.11.14 with Structural Property Catalog V8i SS4 3.1.4.2.

Are the newer SS4 versions of SPC Server and Structural Property Catalog supposed to replace their SS3 predecessors, and, are they backward compatible with SS3?  In previous tests using manual installations we found that if AECOsim Building Designer Ss6 is installed followed by STAAD.Pro Ss6 it would update the SPC Server to SS4 but leave both SS3 and SS4 versions of Structural Property Catalog on the machine.  We're not sure if this normal, but do want to confirm whether the SS3 Structural Property Catalog is needed if an SS4 is also installed.

Solution

Even though a single version of SPC Server is required and maintained from this combination of products, please keep both SS3 and SS4 versions of the Structural Property Catalog in place.  This the default behavior of each product installer and may be needed to retain backwards compatibility.
