AECOsim Electrical Support For Microsoft Excel

      Product(s): AECOsim Building Designer
      Version(s): 08.11.09.866
      Environment: N\A
      Area: Electrical Annotation and Design
      Subarea: Cable Management

    Problem

I’m trying to create a Bill of Quantities using the Output Manager in AECOsim Electrical SS6, but I get the message,  “Connection to Excel could not be established”.  I do have Windows 10 and Excel 2016.  Is this the reason for it?

    Solution

ABD Electrical SS6 only supports Excel 2010, but you can trick it to work with any version with a quick registry edit.
Use the command REGEDIT in the command line or start regedit.exe in C:\Windows\SysWOW64

    1.  In the Registry search for the entry, EXCELAPPLICATION.16 (for Excel 2016). You can use the highest number EXCELAPPLICATION that you find under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
    2.  Copy the value from the Key CLSID which is listed under Excel.Application.16.
    3.  Select HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and create a new key with the name EXCELAPPLICATION.12
    4.  Select EXCELAPPICATION.12 and create a new key with the name CLSID under it.
    5.  Insert the copied value data from EXCELAPPLICATION.16 > CLSID to EXCELAPPICATION.12 > CLSID.
AECOsim Electrical will now be able to find Excel when using the Output Manager.
