Problem

While modifying a Detailing Symbol, when I try to edit the "Sheet Name" field in the detail bubble its properties cannot be edited. How can I change this field to use the Sheet Number instead of the Sheet Name?  Sheet Names are typically too long and often overlap the scale text, so we have always used Sheet Numbers instead so would like to change the default.

Solution

To change the field used by any of the detailing symbol cells, open the DGNlib file that contains the cells you are using.  While the default cells are contained in DrawingSeed.dgnlib it is highly recommended that you copy the existing library and point the configuration variable to use your cells.

In this case the field you will use is a "link placeholder field".

In the .dgnlib file each cell is a Model, and in this example they have all been renamed them all a "My_" prefix:

To edit the bottom field of the cell displayed:
Double-click on the text "Sheet Name"
In the Text Editor delete the text.
Right-click and choose Insert Field.
In the Field Type dialog choose: Place Holder Link Properties
In the Target Template dialog box choose a file that is a sheet model. It doesn't matter which one, this is just a placeholder and you just need a sheet model to access the sheet model properties.
In the Link Target dialog box choose the List tab.
Select the Sheet Model Target Type. Click OK.
Expand the Sheet group and select Sheet Number.
Adjust the Integer Format as desired. Click OK.
Click on the view to finish the edit text command.

The bubble shown below the section cut was added for demonstration purposes only:

This example shows a few sections on an overall plan, with the respective Drawings and Sheets created dyring the process. The Sheet Number Model property has been edited in the those Sheets to provide these results back on the plan for the section Callouts:

To summarize: edit the cells that are defined by the Detailing Style to utilize the placeholder sheet number link property of a Sheet Model.
