There are two delivery mechanisms for the Revit plugin:
The Athens version of Bentley Architecture installer contains all of the Bentley Revit-Plugin install.
When you install Bentley Architecture "Athens" on a machine that has Revit Architecture 2008 installed on it, the Bentley Architecture installer will detect the Revit installation in install all the necesarry files for the Bentley Revit-Plugin. In addition it will also install all necesarry files with Bentley Architecture in order to create the intelligent DGN or BIM model from the exported Revit files.
When Bentley Architecture Athens is installed on a box that does not have Revit Architecture 2008 installed it will only install the Revit-Plugin files needed to create the DGN/BIM model in Bentley Architecture but you will have to run a separate installer which installs the Revit-Plugin on the Revit box to export out your Revit model. See 2.1 Installing the plugin for Revit Architecture 2008 for this.
If you do not have Bentley Architecture "Athens" you can still install and use the Revit-Plugin, however the following limitation applies:
You will only be able to create a DGN model with Revit data from your original Revit model. In order to create a BIM model with Bentley Architecture walls etc. you will need Bentley Architecture.
The plug-in comes with an installer which will install and configure all the necessary files to provide the "Export to DGN" functionality in Revit Architecture. No MicroStation or MicroStation license is required on the machine on which the plug-in is installed for Revit Architecture! This version of the plug-in has been tested with Revit Architecture 2008 only. Installation procedure: Run the "BentleyRevitDGNplugin. msi" installer Click "Next"
Accept the End-User License Agreement and click "Next"
Accept or change the installation path and click "Next"
Click "Install" to begin the installation
Click "Finish" to complete the installation.
At this point you will be able to export the dgn file of the model out of Revit Architecture.
If you plan on converting the exported model to a BIM model that can be used with Bentley Architecture you will also need to configure the triforma.ucf file which is located by default in ...workspace\users\triforma.ucf You can rename the extension of the original Triforma.ucf file and replace it with the sample one provided with the install set.
The following list explains the different configuration variable options:
Part family mode Controls the mapping mode. The following values are available:
Else : Use IFC and IFC class (e.g. IFC / IfcSlab) Default configuration: TFREVITFAMILYMODE = 3
Family mapping file Defines the family mapping file including its path. Default is the file "RvtFamilyMap.rfm" in the current dgn file path. Default configuration: TFREVITFAMILYMAP = c:/[mapping file location]/RvtFamilyMap.rfm
Symbology mode Controls the symbology mode. The following values are available:
Else : Get symbology from IFC PropertySet Default configuration: TFREVITSYMBOLOGYMODE = 1
Revit element deletion switch Switch on (1) or off (0) the deletion of each Revit element that was transformed successfully Default configuration: TFREVITDELSOURCEELEMENTS = 1 Logfile switch Switches on (1) or off (0) the creation of a log file during the import process Default configuration: TFREVITLOGFILE = 1
Scaling error work around Corrects the scaling error of "Save as Bentley DGN" external tool. Sets the scale factor. Default configuration: TFREVITSCALEERROR = 12
