In following example, custom tool box Lighting will be created. Purpose of creating this tool box is to have quick tool for placing symbols without activating Insert Symbol command, selecting symbol and setting mounting height. This tool can be valuable addition to existing smart placement tools for everyday quick modeling.
Step 1: Configuring DGN library
1. Launch BBES and make following workspace selections: User: TriForma Project.: ElecprojecttemplateNcsUS
2. At location: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\WorkSpace\TriForma\elecdatasetncsus\DgnLib Create new file Electrical.DGNLIB
3. Open any electrical file and go to Workspace>Configuration
4. Select Category: Primary Search Paths, and then select DGN Library List on the right side
5. Activate Select Option and navigate to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\WorkSpace\TriForma\elecdatasetncsus\DgnLib 6. Select file Electrical.DGNLIB and click Add
7. New path is now added to the File list.
8. Click Done to finish selection
9. User Interface DGN Library List is now User definable variable (instead of default site variable)
10. Select OK to close Configuration: User dialog box, then select yes to save changes in Triforma.ucf file.
Step 2: Creating User Tools:
1. Open file Electrical.DGNLIB and go to Workspace>Customize
2. Activate New Tool Box, and create tool box called Lighting 3. Data Point on Lighting and select New Tool Box again. Create Lighting Fixtures tool within Lighting tool box.
4. Data point on Lighting Fixtures and select New Tool.
5. Type 2x2 for tool name, once done, make data point outside of this box.
6. Command Data now becomes active. Type in following in Key inn section: 7. bessymtb S=08001060002 H=9, T=23005, R=0 This Key Inn represents insert symbol command Value S=080 is symbol library number ANSI Y32.9-1972 followed by 01 - Category number-Lighting and Power 06 - Group name-Tubes closed and 0002 - Symbol number-Closed 2x2
H=9 represents mounting heights for 2x2 lights. If not set, lights will be inserted at 0:0. T=23005 represents subtype key inn. Subtype format is 11222 where 11=Group ID and 222=Type ID. In example below Group ID would be 23 and Type ID 005 so full subtype key inn is T=23005 Rotation angle can be set with entry R= <rotation angle in degrees>
8. Type in 2x2 for Balloon text 9. Under General Settings, Select Icon and with Browse button navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\WorkSpace\TriForma\elecdatasetncsus\symLibs\080 and select Closed_2_2_40.BMP file. Click 10. OK to finish Define Icon for Tool selection..
Same procedure will be used to create additional tool 4x1
11. Using New Tool create 4x1 user tool.
12. Under Command Data, define Key Inn as follows: bessymtb S=08001060006 H=9, T=23006, R=0 13. Type Balloon text 1x4 14. For Icon select CLOSED_4_1_35.BMP located at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\WorkSpace\TriForma\elecdatasetncsus\symLibs\080
Additional lighting fixtures can be added following the same procedure.
Step 4: Using custom tool box:
Once all required lighting fixtures are added, this user tool box is ready to use. 1. Go to Tool pull down and select Tool Boxes.(or use CTRL T) 2. Select Lighting-Custom Tool Box. 3. Click OK
4. Lighting tool box is now ready to use. Left Click and hold to expand tool selection, then select 2x2.
5. Make Data point to define insertion point and additional data point to define insertion angle. 6. 2x2 Lighting fixture is now placed at 9 ft and subtype D1 is attached. Mounting height can be modified using Edit Height tool. Sutype can be changed using Symbol Subtype tool.
