Change the Insertion Point for Electrical Symbols

How can you change the insertion point for an electrical symbol?

If an existing electrical symbol doesn't have proper insertion point, it can be easily changed by modifying point of origin of 2D representation. Insertion point for any 2D/3D electrical symbol is dictated by insertion point of 2D cell. All electrical symbols are compound cells made of 2D and 3D cells combined into single electrical symbol

In following example insertion point for surface mounted panel will be changed from center to back.
1. Open bescells.cell file located at: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\MicroStation\WorkSpace\TriForma\elecdatasetncsus\symLibs\080
For network based dataset follow path set by BBESDATA variable.
2. Open cell panl_2
3. Select panel and activate move command.
4. Select the top center of the panel and type letter M
5. Data Point Keyin dialg box will come up. Type in 0,0,0
6. Top center of the panel will now be moved to the coordinate 0,0,0.
(0,0,0 always represents insertion point for any electrical symbol)

.

7. Close bescells.cell library and open any registered BBES design file.
8. Use insert symbol tool to place surface mounted panel.
9. 2D and 3D part of panel are not aligned due to changed insertion point for 2D cell.

 10. Use the Move 3D Symbol tool to align the 2D and 3D cells.

11. After symbols are aligned, use Save 3D Symbol Position tool and select the panel.

12. Delete all instances of this panel and Compress design file.
13. Place the surface mounted panel again.
The Panel is now inserted from the top center and 2D/3D cells are aligned.
