CONNECT Edition - Installer Configuration Options

      Product(s): AECOsim Building Designer
      Version(s): 10.0.0.154
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Installation
      Subarea: Configurable Options

AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition installation includes configuration options (as also found in MicroStation CONNECT Edition from Update 4 onwards).

The purpose of these is to:

    a) include creation of the configuration file that redirects the application to networked resources as part of the installation. Previously this was a manual operation followed by other processes (such as the batch files used by the ABD SS6 - QuickConfig) to distribute the required file(s).

    b) make the default sample WorkSets available to users for training purposes. The sample WorkSets are used by Bentley training material.

The complete installation process is described in CONNECT Edition - Installing AECOsim Building Designer. Additional details of the Configuration step are covered below.

    Configuration Options

Once you arrive at the Configuration step, you will find that it allows the location of networked configuration resources to be specified during installation , select Custom Configuration (plus Delivered Configuration) to include a Custom Configuration in addition to the out of the box delivered configuration:

The specified location must be the folder containing (or that will contain) your pre-prepared networked Configuration.

    • Specifying the location in this dialog does not copy/create any files/folders.

Specifying a network location modifies the file:

    "C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsim CONNECT Edition\Configuration\ConfigurationSetUp.cfg"

by adding that location to the "_USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION=" statement. This statement is delivered undefined. The %if statement that follows tests first to see if _USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION has been defined and then if the defined location exists.

    There are three possible outcomes:

    • If _USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION is defined and the defined location exists/is accessible the specified location is used.
    • If _USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION is defined and the defined location does not exist or is not accessible the delivered configuration is used.
    • If _USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION is undefined (the delivered default) the delivered configuration is used.

If this step is missed during installation ConfigurationSetUp.cfg can be modified manually, in this example the line reads:

    _USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION=W:/ABD-CE/

    ConfigurationSetUp.cfg in Operation

ConfigurationSetUp.cfg is written to by CONNECT Edition applications to maintain the correct value of _USTN_CONFIGURATION which is determined by the user's selection of WorkSapce

This feature will be helpful both when installing AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition manually and when creating Deployment Images for automated installations. See How to create a Deployment Image for details of the deployment tools and options available.

    Note regarding Deployment Images

In 10.00.00.154 (which is based on the same Power Platform as MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 5) we have a regression that prevents a modified ConfigurationSetUp.cfg being deployed correctly. For this release it will be necessary to use a batch file or similar process to distribute a modified ConfigurationSetUp.cfg to individual PCs. See CONNECT Edition - Deploying ConfigurationSetup.cfg.
