This is a basic overview of configuration changes made at CONNECT Edition Power Platform level. These changes are common to all Power Platform based CONNECT Edition applications.
Further explanation of these changes can be found in the delivered help:
Home > What's New > CONNECT Edition > New and Changed in MicroStationCONNECT Edition > Configuration
and
Home > Setting Up the Environment > Configuration
Or in our online help documents at Bentley Product Documentation. Go to the Building Design tile, select 'AECOsim Building Designer Help' then click anywhere on the tile to proceed.
Please note that the following is intended as an overview of the installation and configuration changes in MicroStation CONNECT Edition 10.00.00.25 compared to previous versions as well as any future releases.

Please be sure to consult your site administrator of any changes being made to the configuration, as this may result in unwanted issues. You should also backup any original files and track changes being made (this will make it easier to undo any changes made if issues arise).
In V8i, the System folder and its subfolders and files, were delivered under the Workspace folder structure and contained Bentley delivered configuration files. This created problems when CAD Administrators moved the Workspace folder and its subfolders and files to a networked location creating the possibility of version mismatches between application and the networked folders.
So to avoid this issue and to make a clearer distinction between files that are fundamental to application function and those that can or should be site specific, CONNECT Edition applications store these resources in a folder named “Default”, a subfolder of the product folder ( eg. MicroStation (…\MicroStation\Default… or AECOsim Building Designer (...\AECOsimBuildingDesigner\Default...).
This folder and its contents should not be modified and should only contain the Bentley delivered resource and configuration files.
Additional configuration levels nave been added to CONNECT Edition:

Below is a comparison of the delivered directory structure and some of the configuration variables that are most commonly worked with:
V8i CONNECT Edition
NOTE: Pre-CONNECT Edition variables are struck through and the variables listed below the arrows are the CONNECT Edition equivalents.
_USTN_WORKSPACEROOT is now used to define the root directory of a specific Workspace:
Here are some of the new configuration variables and their resulting folders in the new directory structure:
Something to be aware of with the new variables is the similarity between two sets of variables:
_USTN_WORKSPACEROOT and _USTN_WORKSPACESROOT (notice the extra “S”)
_USTN_WORKSETROOT and _USTN_WORKSETSROOT (notice the extra “S”)
