A companion feature to the Ribbon interface in AECOsim Building Designer Connect Edition that will be familiar from other Ribbon based user interfaces, Microsoft Office for instance, is the Backstage.

This panel is displayed when you click the "File" tab or press <ALT> + <F>.

• The Backstage contains all of the basic file-related commands, Open, Save, Save As, Close, etc.
• It is also the home of a wide range of settings and utility functions that help you manage your project, such as editing catalogs and importing/exporting files of different formats. Some of these settings or functions open dialogs within or displayed over the Backstage, others will take you back into the primary interface and display the appropriate dialog.

Many of the commands found under the Utilities and Building Designer menus in AECOsim Building Designer V8i are now found in the Backstage.
