Instance data applied to non-DataGroup elements may need to be removed. Sometimes if the applied data needs to be completely changed, e.g. to a different Type altogether, it can be quicker to remove the existing Instance Data and reapply with the new data type and values.
In CONNECT Edition we have added a button to the Ribbon: AECOsim > Data/Reporting > Detach (Detach Instance Data). This can be used on individual elements or on selection sets:

In V8i the following sequence can be used to detach individual instances:
This will not work for multiple selections.
This is a keyin that can be used in CONNECT Edition and V8i to remove ALL building element and data properties attruibutes.
While it will remove Instance Data for selections it will also remove any Family & Part assignments and drop TriForma forms to MicroStation elements.
TFREMOVE could be used to remove Instance Data from MicroStation elements without changing the elements themselves, for instance using it on an ABD Wall would drop the wall to a MicroStation solid.
