Datasets

Overview

V8i

Two British datasets are available for AECOsim Building Designer SS6: GB and UK.

The V8i GB Dataset, that was most widely, used contains Uniclass 1.4 classifications embedded in Family/Part and object naming, this structure was an obstacle to implementation of the replacement Uniclass classification system that eventually became known as Uniclass 2015.

The V8i UK Dataset was our first attempt at an Uniclass based dataset, but could not be finalized due in large part to the ongoing changes in the Uniclass 2015 tables.

CONNECT Edition

As Uniclass 2015 is now the approved British classification system we have not produced a GB Dataset for CONNECT Edition.

We have delivered an updated UK Dataset and will continue to maintain this.

This version of the UK dataset has been prompted by the decision to deprecate the Uniclass 1.4 classification standard and to replace this with new system generally referred to as Uniclass 2015. This is not a trivial change and has had a very significant impact on the way Bentley systems has decided to provide sample data for use with AECOsim Building Designer. It is worth therefore noting the following points.

Datasets delivered with the application (or downloaded separately) have always been seen as a sample dataset; acting as both an illustrative example of how to create definitions, objects and control their appearance but also as an incentive to encourage users and organisations to create specific datasets to match their areas of operation.

The UK dataset covers the traditional disciplines of Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical design in a vertical construction context. It may therefore lack content suitable for these disciplines that might be commonly found in linear infrastructure projects, however that is not a barrier to users creating and sharing self-generated content if they so wish.

This need for the necessary changes has also given Bentley Systems an opportunity to review the amount of sample data we provide and has taken a decision to rationalise the dataset to make downloads and updates easier to accommodate in the future.

Notes about Uniclass 2015.

This standard is a series of inter related tables describing, classifying and cataloguing the use of construction material its exploitation and the type and nature of the building of facility it is used in. As such there are instances of “one to one” “one to many” and possibly “many to many” codes to physical objects. The tables used in the 2015 systems are extensive and cover a huge range of subject matters and technologies. Intimate knowledge of the subject matter and the specific terminology used in the system is required but can still lead to ambiguity in comprehending and entry. This can make the application of classifications codes in such cases open to debate and interpretation.

Please Note:

This dataset was built using tables available as of March 2016, any changes and updates may not be reflected fully in this dataset

Migration from previous GB/UK datasets

Due to the significant changes made to accommodate Uniclass 2015 and the removal of classification codes from all object names there is no direct migration from either V8i GB or UK datasets so our recommendations are:

This dataset should not be used to Upgrade an existing project.

This dataset should only be used on New projects.

Future versions of the CONNECT Edition UK dataset are expected to have (approximately) annual changes similar in scale to those that we made between previous dataset versions and will be supported by the migration tools and delta change documents as before.

Migrating the V8i GB dataset to CONNECT Edition

It is possible to bring a V8i GB Dataset forward to CONNECT Edition, but this would require a significant amount of work.

N/A

Overview
