How to make changes to a Reference file in the active model?

Solution

The best approach to manipulate a reference will be to either Exchange or Activate the reference:

• Open the reference Dialog Box from File > References.

• Select the referenced file you wish to make changes to.

• Either from the tools drop down menu or via right-click on the file select either Activate or Exchange. With Activate you can edit the reference in-place from within the active model and Exchange will open the reference file in order to focus on that particular reference.

• Once activated or exchanged proceed to perform the necessary changes to the file.

Note: You can go back to the previous model  after the necessary changes are made by using the back green arrow from the View Groups tools located at the bottom left when using the Exchange method or right-click and choose Deactivate when using Activate.
