    Problem

Users are experiencing many failures when exporting to COBie.  Users are getting mixed results from several machines when trying to produce a COBie spreadsheet. When a file is opened from ProjectWise on two separate computers to create the COBie export, one computer creates the export and the second computer fails, a third computer also seems to push out further error messages. Results ranged from not being able to produce an IFC file to not being able to produce (a blank) COBie spreadsheet.

    Steps to Resolve

Steps taken to rectify the problems:

    • Missing Dataset files were replaced which were reported as “Failed to read…” (CobieCV2.0)
    • Corrected the entries for renamed xsd files that generated errors
    • Ensured the user login as having full read write access to the floor manager. (This was not the case initially)
    • Tested ODBC drivers by trying to extract data from an imodel into excel. This worked but a “general ODBC error” was reported with no further explanation.
    • Removed all ODBC drivers from the laptop.
    • Reinstalled the ODBC drivers that came with the v08.11.09.829 (installed) build of ABD.
    • Repeated the extract without the previously and ambiguous error.
    • Successfully created a COBie spreadsheet.

At this point the user indicated that they needed to produce a COBie spreadsheet for a tunnel lining with xyz co-ordinates. The user was informed that the current datagroup and Family and Part assignment for the models were excluded from the COBie definition and thus would not appear in the spreadsheet.

Some of the current Family and Part definitions were remapped to IFC elements that would be included in a COBie spreadsheet such as IFC flow terminal as result of the IFC_COBiemapping.set file.

The following recommendations were made to remove all existing ODBC drivers from machines and install the version that came with the installed AECOsim Building Designer build and to ensure that UAC was set to Never Notify during installation.
