1. Open any Electrical registered file and open Symbol Manager, then go to Edit Structure option
2. Select Tubes Closed group from Lighting+Power category.
3. Select Copy to clip board option to copy symbol category Tubes closed
4. Select Copy from clip board
5. Paste keys dialog box will come up
6. Change key to 80.1.21 (first available key number) and select paste Keys only option. This option will allow us to copy important symbol properties only.If option to paste Keys and linked data were selected, it would copy all symbols and their properties. In this example, Emergency Lights group that we are creating would contain different symbols than Tubes Closed, so copying keys only is the best choice.7. Finish with Ok
8. Tubes Closed group is now added with key number 80.1.21In next step description will be changed to Emergency Lights.
9. Select (80.1.21) Tubes Closed and go to Edit
10. Group properties dialog box comes up. Change name to Emergency Lights and finish with OK
11. Symbol manager now has new group Emergency Lights as shown below
Notice that EMERGENVY LIGHTS group does not contain any symbols, since we selected option to paste keys only, not keys, and linked data.Reason why we decided to copy existing group instead of adding a new group, is to take advantage of already defined Levels, Applications and Tags.
If applications were not defined, symbols from this group can't be used for circuiting, lighting analysis, or automated labeling
Let us take a closer look at each application:
By selecting specific tags, we are designating that those tags can be associated with emergency lights. Display of each tag can be further controlled by MicroStation display tag functionality.
To define level for each symbol group go to Level section under Grop tab
Using select option select only level(s) that are appropriate for that symbol group. Notice that level can not be defined per each individual symbol, but for entire symbol group EMERGENCY LIGHTs only. If more than one level is selected, additional level selection dialog box will come up during symbols placement and appropriate level has to be selected to proceed with symbols placement.
If no level is selected under level section, symbols will be placed at the current active level (assuming that symbols were created at default level)
