What's the best way to create a new Wall Catalog Item?

Solution

The easiest way is to Duplicate an existing wall item in the DataGoup Catalog and then modify it as needed :

1) Open the Catalog Editor:

3) Name the duplicated Item as appropriate, save the new Catalog Item, choosing where to save it, then set the property values as needed. Also, make sure to click on the Save button in the Catalog Editor dialog box:

NOTE: To help keep track of customized objects save with a meaningful file name, perhaps using an organization or project prefix, e.g.: BSUK_Walls.xml

4) Now you will see the new Wall catalog item in the DataGroup Catalog Editor and available for placement in the Place Wall tool:

While the above example is focused on Walls, the same general process applies to other components as well, such as Slabs, Railings, Beams, etc.
