Is there a method to select Components ByColor. If you use the Element Selection tool to do this, it was found that the structural members or building elements are not being included inthe selection. In the attached image you can see the "Line" is selected but nor the Steel Column. Both have the Color 1 assigned either by ByLevel or as Color 1. Is there another method to select all structural components by color?
Selection By Color and selection Bylevel in V8i and CONNECT Edition works the same way. When you select a building element by a color number only the MicroStation elements will get selected. When building elements are placed, the color is in parentheses and is noted as (94) ByLevel in the Color value in the Building Element Information Attributes dialog. So they are normally placed ByLevel instead of by a single color number. This is defined in the Part definition. The actual color number for all elements placed ByLevel is -1, as shown in the Attributes of Building Element Info. If you select ByLevel in the Selection tool, then all ByLevel elements will get selected no matter which color they are because they are all color -1.There really is no good way around selecting building elements only by color. It has to do with when you place elements using the Part definition when Color is set to ByLevel. If you change this setting to an exact color, then the selection of building elements can be made by Color. If you changed the Building Primary toolbar to use placement by Active Color instead of by Part Color, then you will be able to select a steel beam with its corresponding color number in the selection tool.
