This FAQ answers many questions about licensing and contractual topics related to OpenBuildings Speedikon.

1. What is OpenBuildings Speedikon CONNECT Edition, how is it different from Speedikon V8i and what are the benefits?

1. 1. OpenBuildings Speedikon CONNECT Edition is the latest Speedikon version and includes the latest technology.
   2. It is a 64-bit product and includes the complete MicroStation CONNECT Edition functionality. You no longer need an additional MicroStation license.
   3. It combines the functionality of Speedikon Architectural and Industrial in one product.
   4. The data format is fully compatible with Speedikon V8i, no conversion of your project data is required.
   5. Switching to the new user interface in ribbon design is fast and easy, which many users confirm.
   6. It uses current SES licensing, SELECT Server licensing is no longer required.
   7. If you only use current CONNECT Edition products from Bentley Systems and your users are logged in via the CONNECTION Client, you qualify for EVD discounts (Enhanced Value Discount).

2. I am currently using Speedikon Architectural V8i or Speedikon Industrial V8i running on MicroStation PowerDraft V8i or MicroStation V8i. What do I need to do to upgrade and use  OpenBuildings Speedikon CONNECT Edition?

1. 1. Download the latest version of OpenBuildings Speedikon CONNECT Edition from Software Downloads.
   2. If you have used your own company standard in Speedikon v8i, follow the instructions in this wiki.
   3. Install OpenBuildings Speedikon. For detailed installation info, see the Readme, the Installation and Configuration wiki and the Update Manual.
   4. Launch OpenBuildings Speedikon by clicking the orange Speedikon icon on your desktop.
   5. We recommend that you only use the latest version of OpenBuildings Speedikon CONNECT Edition. A separate MicroStation license is then no longer required.
   6. Speedikon v8i can remain installed in parallel. We recommend that you uninstall Speedion V8i after a test period and shut down the SELECT server. Only if you still need Speedikon v8i as well, it can remain installed on your computer but requires a MicroStation license and installation for use.

3. What licenses must be included in my SELECT contract to use OpenBuildings Speedikon CONNECT Edition?

1. 1. In your contract, OpenBuildings Designer appears as the primary licensed and billed product. This allows you to use OpenBuildings Designer and OpenBuildings Speedikon. OpenBuildings Speedikon is by license a so-called "child" of OpenBuildings Designer and is automatically part of it. No additional license is required. If you still have an additional MicroStation license in your contract and do not need it now, you can return this license or exchange it for another product license via Portfolio Balancing.
   2. Parallel use of OpenBuildings Designer and OpenBuildings Speedikon on one workstation does not generate overuse. Having only one OpenBuildings Designer license and using OpenBuildings Designer and OpenBuildings Speedikon simultaneously on two workstations will generate overuse.
   3. With the commercial release of Speedikon CONNECT Edition in late 2018, OpenBuildings Designer has been added to your SELECT agreement and license pool at no cost, based on the number of Speedikon V8i products in your SELECT agreement.
      

4. Which licenses must my SELECT contract include in order to continue using Speedikon Architectural V8i or Speedikon Industrial V8i in addition to OpenBuildings Speedikon CONNECT Edition, since my current project contract requires this? What additional costs will this incur?

1. 1. Even after upgrading to OpenBuildings Speedikon, you have the option to use Speedikon V8i products.
   2. If you want to continue using Speedikon V8i, your contract must include a free entitlement for D*Bentley speedikon Architectural Sub or D*Bentley speedikon Industrial Sub in addition to the OpenBuildings Designer license. In addition, you need a paid MicroStation or MicroStation PowerDraft license to use speedikon V8i. The annual SELECT fee for MicroStation or MicroStation PowerDraft is payable until your company decides to return the license or exchange the license for another product license via Portfolio Balancing. If your contract no longer includes a MicroStation or MicroStation PowerDraft license, the use of Speedikon V8i will result in an overusage of MicroStation or MicroStation PowerDraft, which will be billed at the end of the quarter.
   3. Only OpenBuildings Speedikon and OpenBuildings Designer are listed in the Bentley Licensing Tool. Bentley speedikon Architectural and Bentley speedikon Industrial do not appear there.
   4. With the commercial release of Speedikon CONNECT Edition in late 2018, OpenBuildings Designer was added to your SELECT agreement and license pool at no cost, based on the number of speedikon V8i products in your SELECT agreement.
   5. Since speedikon V8i SS5 (SELECTseries 5) version 08.11.12.09 and later, the 3D Construction, Attribute Filter, Quantity Takeoff, and ProjectEditor modules are available directly in speedikon without an additional license. The licenses D* Bentley speedikon 3D-Construction, D*Bentley speedikon Quantity Takeoff, etc. are no longer needed and can be removed from your contract.

5. What is Bentley’s desktop application support policy for Speedikon V8i?

1. 1. Since July 1, 2021, Speedikon V8i products are no longer supported. See also the Desktop Applications Support Policy.

6. I want to buy OpenBuildings Speedikon. What do I buy and what will I receive?

1. 1. Contact a Bentley sales representative to purchase OpenBuildings Designer.
   2. Your SELECT agreement will include a license of OpenBuildings Designer. This license automatically includes an OpenBuildings Speedikon license, but it is not listed in the quote or contract.
   3. In doing so, you will only pay for the OpenBuildings Designer license. The entitlement to use Speedikon is included in your contract at no charge and allows you to use OpenBuildings Speedikon. You can also use OpenBuildings Designer because the corresponding license is included in your contract.
      
      

7. My project contract requires that I use speedikon Architectural V8i or speedikon Industrial V8i what do I have to purchase?

1. 1. Contact a Bentley sales representative and inform them that you want to use speedikon Architectural V8i or speedikon Industrial V8i.
   2. Your SELECT agreement will include a license of OpenBuildings Designer and D*Bentley speedikon Architectural or D*Bentley speedikon Industrial and MicroStation. This license package will also automatically include an OpenBuildings Speedikon license, but this is not listed in the quote or agreement.
   3. You only pay for the license of OpenBuildings Designer and MicroStation. The entitlement to use Speedikon is included in your contract at no charge and allows you to use OpenBuildings Speedikon and speedikon V8i. You can also use OpenBuildings Designer as the corresponding license is included in your contract.
      
      

8. OpenBuildings Speedikon and speedikon CONNECT Edition both use Subscription Entitlement Service (SES) licensing. How does this work?

1. 1. Subscription Entitlement Service is Bentley's latest process for product activation. It is enhancing our users' digital workflows and improving our licensing capabilities with features such as:
      - License alert notifications when you are approaching a custom usage threshold.
      - Replacing site activation keys with user validation, enhancing security around your Bentley licenses and subscriptions.
   2. Traditionally, product activation has been through an activation key that an Organization distributed to all its users. With Subscription Entitlement Service, product activation is managed by user sign in through the CONNECTION Client, which is installed on each machine that uses Bentley applications. This offers a more secure and manageable system as it offers usage alerts, notifying your users when they are about to reach a certain usage limit set by the Administrator.

   4. Once you are using only current CONNECT Edition products from Bentley Systems, you no longer need an old SELECT server.
