Problem

The Create Plan (Floor Plans) tool includes a View Range drop-down list with value fields for Back, Cut and Forward.  When generating a standard floor plan it's clear that the Cut value is an offset from the active floor when using the Plan By User Definition option, or the selected Floor's elevation when using the Plan By Floor option.  But what does the Forward value do?  Does the Back value have any effect when generating a floor plan?

Solution

The Forward value is essentially the distance from the Floor (active ACS) elevation to the forward clip volume extents, minus any distance applied from the Floor elevation to the Cut Plane via an offset value in the Cut field.

For example, a Forward value of 10:00 with a Cut Plane value of 4:00 would result in a overall Clip Volume height of 6:0

While a Forward value of 0:00 with a Cut Plane value of 4:00 would result in a Clip Volume height of 4:0.

As long as Back/Reflected is disabled in the Drawing Seed (as it is for Arch-Floor Plan) the Back value in the View Range pop-up has no effect.
