Creating a document that displays all symbols within a specific Symbol Library

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Designer
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Electrical Annotation and Design
      Subarea: Symbols

    Problem

Is there any way to create a graphic representation of all of the symbols stored in a symbol library?  I would like to create a "symbols sheet" for internal review.

    Solution

Because symbol libraries are composed of databases, a cell library, and images, there's no simple method to capture that information into a single source.   However, if you're willing to spend a little time you can use the following steps to achieve a reasonable result:

    1. Open Microsoft PowerPoint to a new slide, and from the ribbon bar choose Insert > Photo Album.
    2. Click on the File/Disk button and navigate to your dataset's \symlib\number folder.
    3. Select all of the bitmap files.

    4. Change the Picture Layout to 4 Pictures and enable the Captions below ALL pictures option, then click Update:

The resulting PowerPoint presentation should include four images per slide, each with the *.bmp file name below it.  Note that the *.bmp quality may degrade after going thru the conversion process but it should be suitable as a reference.  You can either use this format as-is, or copy the images into a Word doc, save as a PDF, etc.
