Installing OpenBuildings Designer from Deployment Image

 Product(s):OpenBuildings Designer
 Version(s):CONNECT Edition
 Area:Installation
 Subarea:Deployment Image

Creating a Deployment Image offers users a consistent installation that can run without further interaction on multiple machines, installing OpenBuildings with pre-selected choices of dataset(s) and other options. For a deeper discussion of the advantages of this route please refer to MicroStation CONNECT - How to create a Deployment Image.

Follow the steps to download the installer as described in Installing OpenBuildings Designer.

Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.

Paste in the path/filename of the downloaded installer (tip: in Windows 10 shift + right-click on a file to add the "Copy as Path" option to the pop-up menu). After pasting the path/filename type a space followed by /layout:

Click OK to start the installer.

The subsequent steps will be identical to those described in Installing OpenBuildings Designer but with the addition of one additional choice in the 'Configure' sequence of dialogs; where to put the deployment image. Follow the installation dialogs making choices exactly as for a manual installation, as these will be recorded as part of the Deployment Image (in the {<randomString>}.lyt file).

When the Deployment Image Settings dialog appears choose the appropriate installation mode.

Generally either the Passive or No UI Mode will be selected.

If required multiple versions of deployment images can be saved to provide different options

Selecting Full UI Mode will enable and require user interaction throughout the installation, this may be useful for sites with slow internet connectivity who wish to run manual installations. If this option is chosen all installable files will be downloaded as the user has complete freedom to make any choice available to the installer, therefore all datasets, etc., need to be available at the deployment image location. This takes more time and requires 9-10 GB of storage.

Browse for or enter the folder that will contain the Deployment Image, then click Next:

Continue with the remaining dialogs (as shown in Installing OpenBuildings Designer), clicking the Layout button to proceed with image creation.

Further dialogs will display download progress until the Finish button is displayed.

Once the Deployment Image is created, navigate to the DI folder where it has been saved. Select the Setup_OpenBuildingsDesignerx64.(version number).exe file and double-click on it. Application installation will get started.
