Manually Creating Plan Views in Structural DocumentationCenter TN

    Manually creating plan views

The model refered to in this example is from the "Introduction to Structural DocumentationCenter" Help file. Structural DocumentationCenter creates a Framing Plan drawing at each RSS story. By default each drawing section is located at the story elevation and has a depth (Forward View Distance) of ½ the distance to the lower story. In the case of the Tutorial model, the highest story is the “Roof”. The sloped framing members are located above the (highest) story elevation so they are not captured in the drawing.
You should be able to create a new drawing extraction (Or modify the existing) that shows all the roof framing by following these steps.  The idea is to change the section cut location in a copy of the Roof drawing.

    1.       Open the 3d model view

    2.       Open the Drawing Extraction Manager. (Content > Extract Drawings)

    3.       Select the Roof and use the Copy Drawing Definition (2nd icon on toolbar) to make a copy.

    4.       Rename the new drawing definition to something unique, say “Roof Framing”.

    5.       In the Region tab you can change the location of the section elevation and the depth. You can change the elevation of the section by using the Move Section button or, more easily, by just keying in a new elevation in the Distance and Orientation field.  Next, change the depth of the section by keying in a new value in the Forward View Distance field. Make it larger enough to extend through the volume of interest.

    6.       Save the new drawing definition.

To “Calculate” the drawing (perform the drawing extraction and create the drawing model) select the new drawing definition and use the “Calculate All” button (4th from the end of the toolbar).
The resulting drawing should have the same resymbolization as the Roof since it is based on the same template. The final drawing should appear in Project Explorer under Plans and it should also be included in the Structural Drawing Center dialog box where it can be updated.
